Updates

After initial sketch, I opened the image in the Painter program and did some more drawing on my older computer.  Fun to just hang out and draw.

Back Patio, Warming Up

Just a sketch I started a while ago on my iPad and figured I'd wrap up today during a free moment.  Half observation, half recollection.  I decided to make a couple of small paintings for a sale in December, so now that I've committed, I better get on it. Bust out some paints, make it happen.

Giovanni's Pizza

Locked my keys in my car this afternoon, but it was still a nice day.

My folks brought Ellie and me the keys at the Ag fest, and we went to Glastonbury for pizza.  Great pizza.  We were going to eat outside, but it was colder than it looked.  Ellie took her "Keep it Alive" contest plant with us for the ride, and I drew through the doorway from our booth.

A Pic of Pots

Testing a new drawing app. Just a quick sketch to see what happens, not that I'm anticipating anything incredible or surprising. I am hoping to start drawing more once again but we'll see.

Silver Pendant

Pendant I made at Haystack from sterling silver, oxidized with liver of sulfer.  Cell phone picture could use some help, but whatevs.  I feel like it needs a title--working on that.  Missing the easy access to torches and tools!

The Return from Haystack

Pictured above:  sketch of "thing-I-don't-know-what-to-call," and the jewelry workshop peeps I spent the past 13 days with.  Some great people, pretty much.

Haystack

Some images being considered for metal work/ jewelry in my Haystack workshop.
This is where we had brunch this morning, looking out onto the ocean.

A Monday at the Beach

The best kind of Monday possible, I think.  This was last week, but I just now was able to get the scanner to work.  Drawn at a beach in Gloucester, MA.  Perfect beach day.

January's Book Plate

This is one I did in January and never published on the blog.  Kind of "Art Nouveau."  I really like the book's inside cover, actually.  An awesome orange!

Latest bookplate

Really feeling the need to stick a label on my books, I guess.  I like this one the best so far.  Not too flowery.  I plan to take it to Staples or somewhere to be laser printed, since it came out a little fuzzy on my printer at home.

Another Book Plate

It would be printed in black and white.  I need to darken up the lower right corner I think, looking at it now.  After this I'm done with flowers.  Need something more kick-ass for my bibliotheque.  Anyways, it's an option.

Ex Libris

I was working on a book plate.  Luckily, I think what I came up with was better than these.  Still, they were fun sketches to do.

Jewelry Today!

Sketch-a-day = not a sketch, today.  Some earrings that I made as demos for Jewelry Workshop that's going on in a few weeks.  Been busy getting ready for art camps & trying to make things awesome for the kiddos.  So no charcoal, pen, or paper, but something creative, nonetheless.  And not bad for first-try projects, if I say so myself.  I like to wear the feather earrings--they're fluttery.

Raku

Sketch of Raku firing that I participated in over the weekend.  Big outdoor pottery adventure.  I like in this image how all the people are engaged in one moment/action.

Here There Be Flowers

Smudgy, waxy, papery flowers.  It kind of looks like you can see through the paper. A place for words.

March of the Still-Life

One-two-three-four, one-two-three-four...a chicken-dance-struggle-march.  Some of these objects have no arms.  No-really--none of them have any arms.  But hey, what are they doing?  Fencing? Taking a bow?  Crowing?  They're up to something.

This is not "Harold and the Purple Crayon," folks.  It's "Rachel and the Multi-colored Pencil."

Hungry?

Then this cake is probably not for you.  Inspired by the book "Holes," this cake is for tomorrow morning's theme/book/end of the year party.  True, I might appreciate it more than they do.

In the "connection to sketching" dept:  It was fun to make, quasi-artistic, and in my head I had this awesome sketch of what it'd end up like.  It looked pretty much like this, so now there's not really any point in drawing it.

Frosting credits go to Ellie for taking over--that part was a struggle.

In for Repairs

They think they're invisible.  Someone told them it's psychological, the opposite of a phantom-limb.  But is it still a cello, without a fretboard?  A quiet identity crisis.

Puzzled

Extra pieces.  Somewhere, somebody's missing some.
Well, time to put it away.

The Weight of a Line

...depends on how you draw it.  These ones are not too heavy, I think.  Just something to keep the pen moving.

I'm back.

A word is worth 1/1000th of a picture

There is no substitution, really.  I'm waiting on the return of my own computer to update the blog.  I actually have some paper sketches, but getting them here is tricky.  pfff.  Excuses.  Whatevs.

I'll be back.

Switching and Stitching

So tonight I'm working on a "loaner" computer.  Things are more functional now--no tablet drawing, though, it's all fo'shizzle-tangible-tactile stuff on crunchable, foldable, bendable paper.  No complaints about it, though, I am a materials girl--chalk, paint, and pen--they all get the job done.

Drawbacks remain, however, including the inability to adjust white balance or rotate images by degree increments.  Major cropping ensued, and the paper looks practically brown.  Whatevs.

Update:  Previous image has been replaced.  Kind of miss the silver part in the last copy though.

Rotations

Pencil sketch about things turning around.

My keyboard is acting up. I have to cut and paste half My letters, since they dont work, the apostrophe is gone, and it barfs up randoM syMbols when I type certain letters....cxz  IOeqrtws ˙∆˚¬ <--like that Just spat out of the  “M” key.  Googling for the needed syMbols and letters is stressful.  I never realized how uch I used an M or a u til they were gone...

Floating

The air is so dense, I feel like I could climb up it, and look down on myself.

Finally, it rains.

Cylinders,

Eyeliners, etc.  Chemical compounds.  Like daggers.

Watch your eyes!

It Rained AGAIN Today!

but I did get to see one of these.

So I'm starting to think I don't draw when it rains.  (Bah, the world is full of excuses).  But I saw a Redheaded Duck!
I guess I could've drawn it??
Well, I didn't.

Chain-Linked

I guess you could probably make a chain out of anything.
Like a dotted line, but a little chunkier.  Dot-dash-dot-dot--what would morse code come out like, if it could go through a garbage disposal?

In the Aeroplane Over the Sea

I feel like this elephant deserves a playlist.  And she's running.
Loves sentence fragments and bad grammar.

Plein Aire Sketching

An architectural flaw of the Student Union is that there are no seats in the sun.  I heard that said by someone in passing, and they're right.  Nothin' but shade, but that was okay for me.

Floating

Things are floating.  Lines.  Things on string, things made of string
Glued together.

Thin layers, like slides
Slides of water.

Creative Pursuits

Yesterday's sketch got kicked out of happening by paper work.

Tonight's been productive--I didn't realize how late it is though....or that my blog-time is actually Pacific Standard Time.  Gotta fix that somehow.

Had a few projects going on tonight.

I like the background in this picture, it's all fuzzy/fluffy, and the front is all sharp edges and angles.

Collections

This one will be called "Stuff on top of the microwave at work."
